Trustee Recruitment

We are looking for 2 – 3 new trustees to join our board

About The Melting Pot

The Melting Pot is Scotland’s Centre for Social Innovation. An inspiring community of people striving to make the world a better place. We work across three business strands to support and stimulate social innovation in Scotland.

Our consultancy uses social innovation principles to deliver solutions for people and place. With 18+ years of experience, we help organisations tackle challenges and test new ideas through collaboration, community-led insight and early-stage investment, driving meaningful and sustainable change.

Our central Edinburgh collaborative hub offers a warm and inviting workspace away from home, whilst our meeting rooms provide a convenient venue for upcoming events. Here you can find our friendly, engaged community of individuals and organisations doing good for people and the planet.

A champion of Good Ideas. Our social innovation incubator provides budding entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills and networks to develop their good ideas into a sustainable and impactful business.

The role of a trustee

As an organisation, we are in a period of transition. Like many organisations, Covid impacted our financial position and depleted reserves. Since then, we have been rebalancing our model while continuing to deliver our core offer. We have a strong and well-regarded model. We are now building on this by developing new consulting and partnership approaches. Alongside this, we are beginning to explore options for a new home. Securing the right space, aligned to a sustainable operating model, is a key strategic priority.

As a trustee, you are responsible for the governance and long-term direction of The Melting Pot. You will work with the board and CEO to:

  • Set and oversee strategy
  • Ensure financial sustainability
  •  Manage risk
  • Support and challenge the executive

This is an active role. Trustees are expected to engage in discussion, contribute their expertise, and take shared responsibility for decisions and outcomes.

Current focus and priorities

Over the next 12–18 months, the board is focused on:

  • Rebuilding financial resilience, including strengthening reserves and income streams
  • Supporting the development of consulting and partnership activity to diversify income and extend impact
  • Ensuring the core coworking and community model remains strong and viable
  • Exploring and securing a new home that supports a sustainable, future-fit model

These priorities require active board involvement and clear, well-informed decision-making.
