The Melting Pot, Scotland’s Centre for Social Innovation, is going through an exciting period of growth and development. We have big plans. A new strategy. A growing and dedicated team. A proven platform and model to support the roll out of coworking spaces at home and internationally. We continue to attract the support of leading bodies such as the Scottish Government and are constantly asked to speak at international coworking and social innovation events worldwide.

We are looking to attract and recruit 1 new Board member to join our existing Board.  The Melting Pot is particularly interested in speaking to individuals with specific experience and knowledge of:

  • HR
  • Anything else!

Organisational Background

The Melting Pot is a pioneer of coworking, social innovation and entrepreneurship.  Formed in 2005, it was Scotland’s first, and one of the world’s first, social innovation and coworking organisations, and is currently enjoying its biggest period of growth to date.

As Scotland’s Centre for Social Innovation we lead the way in ensuring creative, resilient and effective social innovation takes its place at the heart of a vibrant society. We do this by providing a range of resources and services helping Scotland fulfil its economic, social, cultural and environmental potential.

During the last 10+ trading years we have amassed a considerable understanding of what it takes to be successful and grow – balancing being enterprising and innovative whilst meeting our charitable objectives and mission: to stimulate and support social innovation.

Every year, well over 10,000 people visit The Melting Pot as we engage with and support individuals and welcome delegations of social innovation practitioners, enablers and policy makers from all over the world. The Melting Pot is firmly established on the Scottish, UK and global ecosystems. We are recognised as social innovation leaders and coworking experts.

Our charitable goals and objectives are supported by 3 interconnected business functions:

1.       Collaboration – a successful and growing commercial bedrock to our organisation, consisting one of the first coworking businesses in Europe, and includes commercial venue hire operations. We have ambitions to grow in to alternative ‘venues’ over the next few years. These operations provide a solid income that allows us to partly resource other activities which achieve our charitable objectives and goals, and reduce our call on public funds or grants.

2.       Incubation of Good Ideas – a range of educational methodologies, events, and programmes designed to catalyse and develop social innovation and the people with ‘good ideas’. Our plan is to pilot replication in Scotland then to franchise these methodologies so that more good ideas can be nurtured and developed.

3.       Acceleration of coworking globally – through the Coworking Accelerator Network : a suite of services which support a new global network to promote, demonstrate and develop quality coworking practices. Our experience of coworking and incubation is combined and harnessed, creating a white label business-turnkey solution.  We provide innovative affordable and practical resources for emerging and established leaders of quality coworking businesses – reducing their cost and risk, and accelerating our collective learning – which will underpin the success of the social coworking revolution and is taking The Melting Pot and its brand to a new global audience.
