Tender: Feasibility Study for Scotland’s Centre for Social Innovation

The Melting Pot and Foundation Scotland are seeking proposals from qualified consultants to conduct a feasibility study on the potential acquisition of 15 Calton Road, Edinburgh, as Scotland’s Centre for Social Innovation.

This study will assess financial viability, market demand, funding opportunities and partnership opportunities to determine the best course of action for The Melting Pot and Foundation Scotland.

VISION FOR SCOTLAND’S CENTRE FOR SOCIAL INNOVATION

The vision is to create a space where individuals and organisations can work together towards innovative solutions to complex social and environmental challenges. The centre will be sector-agnostic and driven by a commitment to generating positive social impact for people and the planet. The feasibility study should assess both the financial and strategic viability of this initiative, examining the business case and gauging interest from potential investors, businesses, and partners.

PROJECT DELIVERABLES

By the end of the contract period, the consultant(s) will provide:

  1. A full feasibility report covering financial viability, market demand, funding
    opportunities, operational models, and an evaluation of the existing premises.
  2. Financial projections with at least three-year forecasts, including cost structures, revenue streams and sustainability planning.
  3. Stakeholder engagement findings, a structured report on stakeholder consultations and engagement findings, including documented interest from potential funders, partners, and the wider social innovation community.
  4. Options appraisal for different governance structures and financial model with recommendations, including legal and financial considerations for different models. (E.g. Community owned / mass membership model)
  5. Recommendations and an implementation roadmap, outlining a structured roadmap, with key milestones and next steps for implementation.
  6. A review period for the draft report, including a review meeting to provide feedback before final submission.
  7. A final presentation to The Melting Pot and Foundation Scotland summarising key findings and recommendations.

TIMELINE

  • May 2025: Project initiation and stakeholder mapping.
  • June – August 2025: Research, stakeholder engagement, and financial modelling.
  • September 2025: Draft feasibility report and review meeting.
  • October 2025: Final report submission and presentation.

We are happy to discuss and agree a timeline with the successful consultant(s) taking into consideration the holiday period.

BUDGET

The maximum budget for this feasibility study inclusive of all expenses is £15,000.

Interviews will take place on: Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th April for shortlisted tenders.
