It was exciting (and busy!) times at TMP last month as the official UK launch of the Coworking Accelerator Network was held right here, alongside the inaugural EXPLORE Quality Coworking training event.

The Coworking Accelerator Network is our replication project, designed to promote the incredible benefits of socially innovative coworking spaces globally. It has two distinct offerings; the first is to create a global network of like-minded coworking spaces, that share our core values of quality coworking. The second offering helps new coworking spaces to open their doors, starting with 1-2-1 consultancy on judging feasibility, as well as a turn-key solution for opening and running a new coworking space.

Supported and funded by the Scottish Government, the UK Launch Event featured talks from prominent voices within the local and global coworking community. Jean-Yves Huwart, founder of the Coworking Europe Conference, opened proceedings by sharing his insights on the coworking movement, and why it is having such an impact in the current climate. Phil Prentice of Scotland’s Towns Partnership then spoke more locally about the opportunities for coworking across Scotland’s smaller communities, whilst Will Tyler-Greig, Head of the Scottish Government Social Enterprise team, emphasised the international connections Scotland will develop as quality coworking grows. Finally, a treat from across the pond came in the form of a video message taken atop the Empire State Building from the founder of our software partner, Nexudus, Adrian Palacios.

The launch was held as a feature aspect of the two-day training workshop, EXPLORE Quality Coworking. Designed to help new coworking space owners/operators test their ideas, develop strategies and explore the essentials of delivering quality coworking, the event was facilitated by highly experienced coworking founders –  including our own Claire Carpenter. Fifteen attending organisations made practical use of the Coworking Canvas and left the event feeling inspired, focussed, and only a little bit intimidated by the myriad of things to consider in running a quality coworking space!
