Welcome back to our Client Spotlight series, giving you insight into the wonderful people who are currently using (and loving) our Block Bookings service. To refresh your memory, this service involves our spectacular spaces being made available at an unbelievably low price for regular evening or weekend events. In case you missed the first one, have a read here and meet Alex of the Humanist Society Scotland (HSS), an organisation which centres itself around the belief that we live our lives without external sanction. AND, you’ll also learn the ins and outs of Block Bookings here at The Melting Pot at the same time – a win win scenario!

This week, we turn our attention to our very first client Justin Ryan, founder of Mindful Edinburgh and somewhat of a co-founder of our Block Bookings service. Justin’s suggestions inspired us to create the service, adapting our offerings to help out a whole host of organisations, including newly-formed ones who need an affordable regular space. Having been with us ever since, you could even call him a true Block Bookings veteran!

What is Mindful Edinburgh? 🧘

Even if you don’t know exactly what mindfulness is, I’d be very surprised if this buzzword has managed to escaped your attention. Growing in popularity, the practice involves “a combination of attitudes, techniques, and ways of being which as we learn to embody them, can enable us to be more present to what is happening, while it is happening”. So there you have it –  an enlightening practice which not only encourages people to live more in the moment, but has also been linked to improved mental health, reduced stress, increased productivity and much much more. What more could you want?!

At Mindful Edinburgh, there’s something to suit everyone. If you want to go on your own mindfulness journey through the 8-week programme, you will join a small group who will be trained in how to train your brain (and here we train your tongue with twisters apparently). Or, need some inspiring team-building exercises or relax after a stressful patch? Have a go with your colleagues! Team-based events are available, and can be carried out in the workplace. At the end of these sessions, you’ll come out feeling much more equipped to manage stress, communicate with clarity and kindness, and take better care of yourself.

Justin describes his style as participatory, enabling and inclusive. This approach aims to empower people, through the practice of mindfulness, to take charge of their lives, what happens to them, and over their mind and mood.

Block Bookings – Why Us? 🤔

When Mindfulness Edinburgh was in its formative years, the question wasn’t why block bookings, but why doesn’t Block Bookings exist? That’s right folks – there was once a time when this amazing service was yet to exist! Hard to believe, we know, but it’s true.

That’s where Justin stepped in and revolutionised our service offerings forever. The idea was that, when multiple bookings are taken at once, this saves admin time on both the client and melting potter side. And, since a big bulk of bookings are coming in at once, why wouldn’t we want to thank clients with a discounted rate for choosing our lovely venues for their regular (and always interesting) events?

For those who go for Block Bookings, the major upside is that The Melting Pot will be a home for their events, and a familiar place (or face?) for their clients. This was a great bonus for Justin, giving his organisation a fixed place to practice mindfulness without the high costs of a fixed, individual space, and without having to book for each session. What’s more, he echoed to us the praise for our ‘uniqueness’, with many clients being intrigued and impressed as to who we are and what we do. This added allure keeps new clients on their toes when they come along to any sessions or events.

And what better place to call home than right here on Rose Street? Not only does our easily accessible city centre location means that clients from all corners of the city (and country) can get to us, but the space itself is endlessly inviting. Naturally, we here at The Melting Pot wholeheartedly believe this as we experience its charms almost every day, and love sharing the magic of our space with others. But clients such as Justin don’t fail to pick up on that either.

I couldn’t dream of a better summary of our space than the one Justin shared with us during our chat about his experiences; “It’s a warm, inviting space that has a relaxed professionalism about it and the spaces for hire are well cared for, comfortable and give a good impression for clients and for The Melting Pot”. We similarly discussed the good energy the spaces have, and how the atmosphere truly encourages learning and growth, which is something we try to foster. What better place could you imagine for training, teaching and learning events than a space which naturally possesses the perfect conditions for it?
