Claire Murray is an experienced teacher, curriculum designer, trainer and educational consultant. She has a background in psychology and research, and is a qualified primary teacher. She worked as a practicing teacher in both mainstream and specialist support settings over a period of 14 years, while completing a number of post-graduate courses in child development and special/inclusive education along the way. Claire’s professional interests include promoting emotional wellbeing in educational contexts and supporting communication and learning for all. Over the past 10 years she has developed, piloted and refined the ‘Emotion Works’ programme for teachers, early years practitioners and educational support staff. The Emotion Works programme offers resources, training and a recently launched web-based platform to help practitioners deliver emotional education and additional support when necessary.
In 2013 Claire set up Emotion Works as a Community Interest Company which operates within a social enterprise business model. Emotion Works has reached hundreds of schools and educational settings across Scotland, and is becoming increasingly established as a reputable, self-sustaining organisation that puts learning at the heart of emotional wellbeing. Claire’s journey as a social entrepreneur has also seen her growing the Emotion Works Community into a large network of like-minded practitioners who are connected by Emotion Works principles, and supported via local and online social networks.
