Claire was shortlisted for the Women in Social Enterprise category at the Social Enterprise Awards 2017.

The ceremony is the biggest celebration of the sector, acknowledging the best and brightest throughout the UK. The nomination spotlights Claire as one of the UK’s leading social entrepreneurs.

Earlier this month Claire Carpenter, Founder and Managing Director, and Roger Horam, Director, donned their glad rags and headed to London for this year’s UK Social Enterprise Awards.

The Awards recognise organisations for their business excellence and contribution to society, as well as the achievements of people working at the heart of the sector.

The ceremony was hosted by comedian Aisling Bea and featured award winning actor and political activist Michael Sheen. Over the course of the evening awards were presented to social enterprises tackling a broad range of social issues, from health and social care to the environment.

“Social enterprise can change the world” – Michael Sheen

Claire was among a small handful of Scottish nominees that included Edinburgh’s Grassmarket Community Project. Her nomination acknowledges a long career of social innovation and impact. With The Melting Pot, Claire pioneered coworking in Scotland and has been igniting, supporting and effecting social change for over a decade. In this time The Melting Pot has supported close to 1000 coworking members and has welcomed 10,000 people a year to our event space. Our incubation programme the Good Ideas Academy has supported 77 founders of socially innovative organisations, and Claire has personally mentored over 500 social entrepreneurs.

Claire’s tenacity and business acumen have taken The Melting Pot from inception to institution. A decade after opening the doors of Scotland’s Centre for Social Innovation, she’s taken on the challenge of spreading quality coworking across the globe with the Coworking Accelerator Network. Although she may not have taken home the award, we are very proud to have seen her shortlisted and recognised as one of the UK’s leaders in the social enterprise sector.

Than you to Social Enterprise UK for a wonderful evening and congratulations to all of the nominees and winners from this year’s awards.
