Thursay evening lecture and Friday all-day conference organised by Friends of the Earth Scotland and the University of Edinburgh Business School in partnership with Christian Aid, the New Economics Foundation, the Scottish Trade Union Congress, the World Development Movement and Unison.
It is time for fundamental reforms to make the banking system serve the interests of society, rather than the other way around:
- How can we handle banking crises without burdening the taxpayer, or better still, avoid them altogether?
- Instead of financing speculation and environmental destruction, can we get banks to serve the needs of local economies, and sectors with real social and environmental value?
- What is the vision for Scotland’s future banking sector, and do we need independence or greater devolution to realise it?
At the Just Banking conference, leading economists and campaigners will debate positive proposals to address these urgent questions.
