What makes The Melting Pot different?
At The Melting Pot you get much more than a desk and chair. Our members are united by a common desire to help make the world a better place. We provide an inspiring, supportive and collaborative environment to help you work, connect, develop ideas, share skills and knowledge, and make things happen. It’s a place to get your head down, as well as your heads together.
With plenty of space to “hot desk”, move around and conduct an impromptu meeting, you never know who you’ll find yourself working next to or sharing a coffee with. In addition, The Melting Pot‘s hosts can help connect you to others in our community who might be able to help you realise your ideas.
Plus, every month our members are invited to a private lunch, at which we put our heads together, listen to what we’re each doing, and give and receive advice. If nothing else we stop working for an hour and concentrate on the relationships that support and connect us. It’s amazing what can be accomplished over a bowl of soup!

Who should join The Melting Pot?
Our aim is to create and resource a dynamic, inclusive community of “social innovators” – people with diverse skills, experience levels and interests who are working to enhance social, environmental and economic wellbeing. We also welcome a selection of members whose professional services and shared values enhance and support this community, such as book keeping, administration, design, marketing, PR, IT support and coaching.
Our members include, but are not restricted to, the following groups:
The Start-up
Are you currently exploring a socially innovative idea or project – just starting out and not sure where to go next? The Melting Pot provides a professional and fully serviced base, including peer support, resources, training and signposting to help you launch and grow your dream for a better world.
The Activist
Are you on a board, a member of a committee or involved in a grass roots organisation? The Melting Pot offers affordable, accessible and attractive meeting spaces run by and for the more-than-profit sector. You get access to professional resources and networks to help you raise your profile and build strategic alliances.
The Organisation
For larger organisations The Melting Pot provides a number of unique solutions:
Individual memberships: Are you working in isolation as the sole contact for a national organisation? Or do you need additional desk space for a short-term project? Would you value and enjoy a more sociable place to work amongst peers – and a place where your regular volunteers can come and work in the company of others so you don’t always have to be there with them? Our serviced facilities mean you can focus entirely on your job, without spending precious time mending the printer or other distracting tasks. Our flexible terms give you opportunities to house a short term project, and to grow as needed through taking on additional individual memberships for other staff and volunteers. We’ll even able to give you secure remote access to your own IT server.
Hot-desking space: Do you have a number of staff and need occasional, central hot-desking or informal meeting spaces? Our Associate Membership packages mean you can increase staff effectiveness, motivation and outreach – and at the same time reduce your travel times and costs, and your impact on the environment. Other benefits include the opportunity to raise your profile with your target audience and the ability to increase your organisation’s capacity through access to our diverse and talented membership pool for a broad range of contractible services.
Meeting and event space: Do you need conveniently located meeting, events and training rooms? The Melting Pot offers high quality, central, accessible spaces located on all public transport routes and with disabled access. The Consultant
Are you a consultant providing services that support the development of new or existing socially innovative projects and organisations? Or do your business skills and services directly support those working for More than Profit companies? The Melting Pot provides a professional, fully serviced base where you can work effectively with like-minded individuals.
The Out-of-Towner
Do you live outwith Edinburgh and would benefit from occasionally accessing central, flexible work and meeting spaces close to all public transport links? The Melting Pot offers membership options to suit any timetable and budget, and provides a central location for meeting clients and contacts.
The Traveller
Are you always on the move nationally and internationally, perhaps as a member of other hubs for social innovation? The Melting Pot provides a “home from home” in Edinburgh and Scotland, complete with a central, fully equipped workspace, kitchen facilities and local community networks – all just two minutes from the train station.
